![]() #DASHLANE NOT WORKING IN FIREFOX 40.0.3 UPDATE#I trust Norton's security more than FF, so if Norton is on and protecting me in FF40, then surely I am much better off than with FF41 and no Norton !?!Ī little popup arrives every three or four hours advising me to update to 41.0 and just keeps coming back and back and back. Īfter four years of this bull, I decided to not update FF until Norton releases toolbar. It was horrendous - if you do not remember (or don't believe me), check this timeline of releases. It got so bad during early 2013 - mid 2015 that it seemed like every time I started FF it updated. ![]() #DASHLANE NOT WORKING IN FIREFOX 40.0.3 PATCH#Every time they go to a new integer (that's like 25 or 30 but not 25.1 or 30.1) Norton had to patch the toolbar and we would get a few days or a week of downtime. I have been angry in the past at the ridiculous amount of FF updates, partial updates every two days, and going 37.3.2 -> 38.0.1 ->38.0.4 -> 38.4 -> 38.7.4 ->39.0.1 -> 39.0.3 in three weeks. So, because Firefox release a new version every six weeks, it is somehow Norton's fault? Finite resources due to budget cuts, personnel cuts, or whatever doesn't matter- they still charged me $49.99 to renew Norton Antivirus for one computer this year and I expect my product to work as advertised and as it has in the past. However, they have stumbled this year with an unstable antivirus program update release, and now an excessively long delay to update the Norton Toolbar and Vault. I'm a long time Norton user, and for the most part satisfied with the product. Reading your link to " Dropping support for binary components in extensions" posted in the Mozilla Add-Ons Blog it makes me wonder even more why Norton wasn't prepared for this change in Firefox 41. As with the recent Norton Antivirus update debacle that caused so many users trouble due to inadequate testing before release, if it weren't for users complaining in this forum Norton may not have noticed the extent of the problems nor fixed them- and that is my only purpose in my complaints here. This was a huge change that could have been caught by Norton easily in the beta release.Ĭomplaining about Norton's post about the Norton Toolbar not being updated until the end of October is NOT beating up on them. Since this Mozilla technology will not be available anymore, we have to make significant changes to our design and implementation to provide the current functionality with equal level of security.". We chose this originally because it was the best way to provide the most secure communication and at the same time offer the best user experience for customers. I does sound like you are making excuses though for Norton, as a beta release of Firefox 41 would have shown the change that caused the incompatibility as it was a big modification for a specific programming type.īeta release process is usually for ironing out bugs, and the explanation given by Norton "Up to this point, Norton has used a Mozilla technology called ‘binary XPCOM’, to establish secure communication between the Norton product and Norton’s extension for Firefox. True to a point that beta programs can change as they are refined and the bugs ironed out. Mozilla made their announcement back at the beginning of May. The toolbar may be updated by then to to offer phishing protection and show Safe Web annotations in search results but from what I understand, the ID Safe will come later. Ron, my understanding is that we will be waiting even longer before the Identity Safe is compatible. My complaint is there will be no easy access to Norton Vault within Firefox 41 for about a month, which is ridiculous considering Mozilla puts out beta versions in advance of a final release to give developers time to re-code their extensions if need be. ![]() They differentiate between Norton Safe Web and the Norton Toolbar, but in their release statement the instructions for the Identity Safe/Norton Vault (which is part of the Norton Toolbar in Firefox) just gives cumbersome alternatives. Norton says end of October 2015, that is what I said. What isn't quite right Krusty? Care to clarify in your own words?
